When the Korean War began, propeller-driven aircraft were still in use, but soon the aerial combats involved Russian-built MiG-15s and U. S. F-80s and F-86s for which SIFCO manufactured the main leg cylinder. The Sabre Jet was the first swept wing fighter built in the United States and scored consistent 10 to 1 victories over the MiGs.
