B-29 Superfortress Long Range Heavy Bomber, using 8 turbosuperchargers. The Superfortress bombed Tokyo for the first time on November 24, 1944 and on August 6, 1945, the "Enola Gay" dropped first atomic bomb on Hiroshima. There were 3,970 produced.
The B-17 Flying Fortress was in service during December 1941 and most were destroyed in the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor. A mass production of 12,731 ensued. Four turbosuperchargers were used on each B-17 produced. Daylight bombing in Europe began on August 12, 1942, utilizing the Flying Fortress.
